“Lean into the wind” could be considered the unofficial motto for the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, which two women born and raised in South Dakota now call home.

It’s a lovely phrase. What it means to those who have joined the order also is lovely. “It’s been used in our community especially the last few years,” says Sister Gianna Heinemann, a Flandreau native.
