SOUL MUSIC
The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles
to release a new CD

Twelve of the fourteen songs composed by the sisters,
have never been heard before

ALHAMBRA, Calif. The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles do not have a lot of spare time. Why?  Their daily life includes both prayer and service to God’s people through healthcare, education, and spiritual retreats. The sisters specialize in senior living and healthcare for seniors at three centers – Avila Gardens and Santa Teresita in Duarte, CA, and Marycrest Manor in Culver City, CA. They sponsor the Hayden Child Care Center of Santa Teresita in Duarte and Little Flower Educational Child Care Center in Los Angeles, and teach in eight elementary and high schools. Last, but certainly not least, the sisters offer spiritual retreats at the Sacred Heart Retreat House in Alhambra. Somehow, however, the Sisters also manage to be bona fide recording artists…and, on March 25, 2014, will release their new CD, Lean Into The Wind.

Their new CD includes 14 songs, 12 of which are original compositions written by the Sisters.

“The songs include something for everyone.  Listeners will find everything from chant to contemporary praise music,” explains Sister Mary Scholastica, O.C.D., who spearheaded the project. “As music touches the soul so deeply, so uniquely, our hope is that many will encounter God through this experience.”

Indeed, Los Angeles based composer Jeffrey Bernstein confesses that he had “tears streaming down” his face as he listened to the CD for the first time. “This is evocative music, heartfelt and moving and beautifully sung,” says Bernstein, Artistic Director of the Pasadena Master Chorale. “The sisters have created this deeply spiritual music for a beautiful and noble purpose, and I have no doubt it will inspire and bring grace to many.”

But why become recording artists in the first place?

“We have long used the gift of music to draw souls to Christ,” explains the Carmelite community’s Superior General, Mother Judith, O.C.D. “This release benefits everyone involved – those who purchase it, in that our mission is to promote a deeper spiritual life among God’s people – and those we help because all proceeds raised from sales of Lean Into the Wind will go to support the life and works of the Sisters.”
